The purpose of Team CBMX and what we do at the
races is to fulfill the command of Jesus when he said,
"Therefore go and
make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of
the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have
commanded you." in Matthew 28:19-20.
First, you need to know that no matter who you
are or what you've done, that God loves you! He told all of us this in
Romans 5:8 - "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were
still sinners, Christ died for us."
What we all need to realize is that all of us
need Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of our sins, because all of us have
sinned.
"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23 "We all,
like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord
has laid on him the iniquity
of us all." Isaiah 53:6
There is a consequence for our sins...death! "For
the wages of
sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our
Lord." Romans 6:23
The other reason why we all need Jesus Christ is
because we cannot earn our way to heaven by the way we act or the things we do,
whether you're a Christian or not. God told us this in
Ephesians 2:8-9
-- "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from
yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast."
To be a part of God's family, to be called his
son or daughter he requires that you start with accepting Jesus Christ (his own
son) as your Lord and Savior. Jesus himself tells us that in
John 14:6 "...I
am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except
through me."
If you accept him then God promises us this,
"Yet to all who
received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become
children of God." John 1:12
What is really cool about accepting Jesus into
your life is that you'll become a new person! This means that you'll look at
things in your a life in a different way, you'll still be who you are because
that how God created you. This is explained in
2 Corinthians
5:17-18 -- "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has
gone, the new has come!"
Another thing we need to do in becoming a
Christian is to be baptized. Jesus set the example of this for us as stated in
Matthew 3:13-15--"Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by
John. But John tried to deter him, saying, 'I need to be baptized by you, and
do you come to me?' Jesus
replied, 'Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all
righteousness.' Then John consented."
And Jesus tells us to do the same in Matthew 28:19-20 (stated above). Baptism
is an important act for a Christian. It represents what Jesus did for all of
us, he was buried (just as we are when we go underwater) and then raised again
(just as we are when we emerge from the water) to a new life.
There is a lot more to understand and those of us from Team CBMX want you to
know as much as you would like to. Please feel free to contact us via e-mail or
visit with us at the track to talk more to us about our own decisions to become
Christians and what God has done for us since doing so.
